German Car Day is a fun family-friendly charity event in Perth that celebrates all German marques, including BMW, Porsche, Audi, Volkswagan & Mercedes-Benz.
My First Time Attending a Car Event in Perth!
On Sunday, March 20th 2016 – I attended my first ever ‘Car Cruise/Car Event Show’ in Perth. I was pleasantly surprised at how family-friendly orientated it was, and how well organised and informative it was. There were no “hoons” or excessive mullets here, only passionate and proud German vehicle owners who enjoyed bonding and conversing over shared interests.
It was quite an educational event too – while learning about vehicle origins, you subsequently learn about the historical context of what was happening during that time also. So really, the car event was kind of like a history lesson for me too, which I enjoyed! You know, I actually walked away with a newfound appreciation and respect for vehicles, and all the work, money and time that dedicated owners spend into vehicle preservation and maintenance.
That’s why I thought I’d write a quick blog post about my German Car Day out experience, so I hopefully inspire you, your friends and family to check out the next car event happening in Perth. Don’t be put off by media-induced assumptions that it will be full of rowdy, uncivilized beastly men – 98% of the people at these shows are just your general passionate car lovers who have great pride and respect for their cars and each other.

The family-friendly day event featured German food, German-themed music, competition prizes and plenty of vintage, classic and modern German vehicles. It’s proudly hosted by the Mercedes-Benz Car Club of WA (Inc), and is a charity event that aims to promote all German marques, including BMW, Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz. Approximately 240 vehicles participated in the event throughout the day, with a wide range of interesting makes and models, old and new, being represented.
The first meeting spot was at a central Perth CBD carpark. Entry was $10 and you also receive a display pass if you want to display your vehicle on the oval later in the day. People checked out each others’ cars, got coffee from the van, took photos, had chats and received a short briefing on the days itinerary. Then, we set off – a convoy of German cars left Perth off on a 120km route down Kwinana Freeway, Mundijong Road and South Western Highway, before winding along the scenic Del Park Road towards Dwellingup.
At Dwellingup Display Oval the official event showed off great cars, German-esque cuisine and live entertainment by Bavarian-themed band, Alpen Duo. Oh and some lucky person won the First Prize ‘Sanctuary Golf Resort Weekend Escape’ raffle to Bunbury!

Yes, the Lamborghini is Italian, but this particularly model was actually made in Germany at the Audi factory, in case you were wondering. [Photographer: Fotogenik Productions via Facebook]

Cruising to Dwellingup – the second and final destination.

Not going to lie – it was a hot day! But that’s nothing new in Perth – so we dropped into Whisk Creamery in Subiaco afterwards for delicious refreshments. This was YUM.
